The Tahiti 25 Km

After spending over 22 hours in the Air France aircraft that flew 11 time zones from Paris to the South Pacific via Los Angeles, upon reaching my accommodation in Tahiti I wanted to stretch my legs by doing a marathon. I started at 9 AM, ran 5 km in downtown Papeete to the Promenade de Motu Uta, then walked to the Belvedere du Tahara’a and back to Papeete. By when I reached 25 km, it was too hot to continue in a comfortable manner.
Aita pea pea (no worries), because I traveled to French Polynesia for the Moorea Marathon on February 25, scheduled to start at 4:30 AM to avoid the heat.
I was 55 when I did my first marathon, in Chicago. I've so far completed in all over the world—including in Africa, Antarctica, Asia, North America, Central America, South America, the Caribbean, Europe and Oceania--over 400 marathons and ultramarathons to promote the fitness and health benefits of running.
