The Chantilly Palace Marathon
Liberation Marathon # 41
Date: August 29, 2020
My Time: 6:31:20
By Dr. Barefoot Sidy Diallo
I ran on August 29, 2020, in Chantilly, France with my son Alexandre Diallo, for whom it was his first marathon, my 41st liberation marathon. Mom joined us for a half marathon. The three of us did the race with minimal foot protection. We had registered for a confirmed small event, which was scheduled in Chantilly on the August 29–30 weekend, and included triathlon races, a marathon and a half marathon.
Then the organizers announced its cancellation just two weeks prior to race day “because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” although the weekly incidence rate of infections was on August 28 very low in Chantilly (22.4% per 100,000 population) compared to Nice (114.8% per 100,000 population) from where the country’s biggest cycling event (The Tour de France) started on August 29.
My book Running Barefoot for Human Survival is available on Amazon in paperback and e-book format (French edition: Courir pieds nus pour sauver les humains).
