Dr. Sidy Diallo did his 371st marathon in a Paris area forest that wood-hungry people were zealously turning into awful glades.

Requiem for Homo sapiens
We should at least pray for the only endangered animal species humans don’t care about at all, namely Homo sapiens who ended up turning into Homo stultus and Homo predator. The fauna depends on the flora for survival. The flora not only made—and keeps—the planet inhabitable for animal species, but also provides them the food they need to live. In other words, the unnecessary destruction of the flora spells the demise of the fauna—including all primates: no flora, no fauna!
Homo sapiens is a tropical species, which explains why our bodies are so vulnerable to cold weather and why we need shelters, clothes, heating, etc., to survive the winter. But that does not justify the ongoing destruction of the few remaining European forests.
When I ventured into a forest in the Paris area for my 371st marathon, I was expecting to see the usual slow deforestation going on. But this time it was a different story: wood-hungry guys were fanatically turning the forest into awful glades for easy money.
Firewood is indeed a booming business all over Western Europe, and no one seems to care about the impact on global warming and the resulting aggravation of natural catastrophes: deaths, destruction, drought, starvation in poor countries, flooding, forest fires, heat waves, winter storms, sea level rise, etc. At the same time, some are proudly driving electric cars powered by electricity produced by coal-fired power plants...

Bloomberg: “Desperate Europeans Return to the World’s Oldest Fuel for Warmth. ‘It’s back to the old days,’ as demand for firewood soars due to gas shortage.”
EURONEWS: “Europe’s energy crisis—Wood industry booms before winter of discontent.”

Why are we getting everything so wrong and how can we still save our species? I provide answers in Running Barefoot for Human Survival. The book is available on Amazon in paperback and e-book format (French edition: Courir pieds nus pour sauver les humains).
