The 2017 Hwange Marathon
Barefoot Marathon # 12
Date: August 2, 2017
My Time: 5:45:20

Simplicity Generates Happiness
I ran near Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, my first barefoot marathon in the cradle of humankind, where I met a creative happy running boy who reminded me my childhood in Fouta Djallon and how simplicity generates bliss.
As I explain in the book Running Barefoot for Human Survival, we should be inspired by authentic Africa to rediscover natural happiness and the meaning of life for free. Running marathons, preferably barefoot, is just the first step in the right direction. Sadly, even Africa is increasingly indulging in the dominant lazy and consumerist lifestyle, which keeps fueling permanent frustration, depression, obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, Alzheimer disease, vulnerability to pandemics, drought, floods, unprecedented fires, global warming, etc.
The Hwange Marathon was one of 7 marathons I ran in 7 African countries in 8 days. The other six races are:
3. 2017-07-29: Ladybrand Border Marathon, South Africa
4. 2017-07-30: Maseru Bridge Marathon, Lesotho
5. 2017-07-31: Sand River Marathon, Swaziland
7. 2017-08-03: Chobe Marathon, Botswana (barefoot)
8. 2017-08-04: Impalila Island Marathon, Namibia (barefoot)
9. 2017-08-05: Zambezi Waterfront Marathon, Zambia (barefoot)
My book Running Barefoot for Human Survival is available on Amazon in paperback and e-book format (French edition: Courir pieds nus pour sauver les humains).
