A Great Tropical Marathon
The Kuala Lumpur Marathon is my 362nd marathon in 12 years.
I participated three years ago in Ivory Coast in the world worst marathon. Its second half even turned out to be a fight for survival. By contrast, I experienced in Kuala Lumpur one of the best tropical marathons. The race is very safe and perfectly organized. All you need is to run. You even can walk, as the time limit is also generous: 7 hours and 15 minutes. We ran past the iconic Petronas Twin Towers.
On the other hand, the type of asphalt in Kuala Lumpur is not so friendly for non-permanent barefoot walkers or runners. After running barefoot for nearly 15 km, I therefore decided to continue the race with worn-out minimalist shoes.
Finally, I saw tens of participants comfortably running with sandals, which means that there were many hundreds of them in the race.
My book Running Barefoot for Human Survival is available on Amazon in paperback and e-book format (French edition: Courir pieds nus pour sauver les humains).
One Death in the Kuala Lumpur Marathon
A death in a marathon—like any untimely death—is always a tragedy. Unfortunately, a 47-year participant in the 2022 Kuala Lumpur Marathon collapsed during the race and remained unconscious in a hospital until he passed away three days later.
