The 2018 Azeri Marathon and Half Marathon
Marathon # 160
Barefoot Marathon # 26
Date: August 18, 2018
My Marathon Time: 4:49:29
My Half Marathon Time: 3:07:06
By Dr. Barefoot Sidy Diallo
Once upon a time in Azerbaijan
I ran barefoot the same day the 2018 Azeri Marathon and the 2018 Azeri Half Marathon, and placed second overall in both races. After completing the marathon at 63, without any pain or fatigue, I wanted to keep running, and the race director and organizer of the 2018 Caucasus Challenge, Ziyad Rahim, kindly granted me the permission to start the half marathon.
It was a kind of a repeat: Three years earlier in Antarctica, after finishing the 2015 White Continent Ultramarathon (50 km), I did the 2015 Penguin Half Marathon. That was before I switched to barefoot running, which doesn’t matter since Antarctica is THE WRONG place for barefoot or nude humans anyway: Antarctica is NOT Gran Canaria. I explain why in my book Running Barefoot for Human Survival.
The two other events of the 2018 Caucasus Challenge were the 2018 Capital City Marathon, in Georgia, and the 2018 Bagratashen Marathon, in Armenia. I earned four medals because I did two races in Azerbaijan.
Running Barefoot for Human Survival is available on Amazon in paperback and e-book format (French edition: Courir pieds nus pour sauver les humains).
