The 2015 Bahamas Marathon
Marathon # 100
Country # 31
Date: January 18, 2015
My Time: 3:55:37
By Dr. Barefoot Sidy Diallo
I ran in the Bahamas my 100th marathon and placed second in my age group.
A press release of the Bahamas Marathon had announced, few days earlier, my choice of their country for my 100th marathon. When I arrived at the Marathon Expo, I pleasantly learned that they had reserved the bib number “100” for me.
The Bahamas Marathon is one of the most lovely marathons in tropical paradise. I placed second in my age group, and the reward was a big cow bell, namely the Bahamian Cowbell, which is an instrument of the Junkanoo music. The finish zone was in Junkanoo Beach, where a group of Junkanoo musicians, wearing shining parade costumes, kindly posed with the marathon finishers for souvenir photos.
The Bahamas Marathon is one of my last races with sneakers, compression socks, ankle braces and insoles. I switched in October 2015 to truly barefoot running. I explain how and why in my book Running Barefoot for Human Survival.
Running Barefoot for Human Survival is available on Amazon in paperback and e-book format (French edition: Courir pieds nus pour sauver les humains).
