The 2020 Virtual New York Marathon
Liberation Marathon # 55
Date: October 17, 2020
My Running Time: 5:37:40
By Dr. Barefoot Sidy Diallo
Gisèle Diallo, Sandrine Desorbaix, Corina Guran, Boubou Ly, Bastien Bernard and I were the six “soldiers” who took the fight against the COVID-19 on October 17, 2020. We ran from Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (SQY) to the Statue of Liberty on Swan Island, in Paris.
The landmarks on the course included the park of the Palace of Versailles, the Pershing-La Fayette monument, the Saint-Cloud Domain, the Bois de Boulogne, Foch Avenue, the Place de l’Etoile, the United States Square, Thomas Jefferson Square, the statue La Fayette and Washington, the monument to the American Volunteers who died for France, Champs-Élysées Avenue, the Place de la Concorde, New York Avenue, the Eiffel Tower, President Kennedy Avenue, etc.
Congratulations to Boubou and Sandrine for completing their first marathon, and to my son Alexandre who did the race in The Netherlands!
The 2020 Virtual New York Marathon was my second non-official New York Marathon. In 2012, due to the cancellation of the race in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, I was among those who participated in the Run Any Way NYC Marathon 2012, which we did in Central Park. I’ve so far completed twice the official race: with sneakers in 2013, then barefoot in the 2019.
My book Running Barefoot for Human Survival is available on Amazon in paperback and e-book format (French edition: Courir pieds nus pour sauver les humains).
