Cool Flight from Mexico City
December 3, 2021

Viva Mexico!
Mexico is one of the most peaceful, free, democratic and welcoming countries, even in corona times. Mexico has welcomed prominent and anonymous refugees from all over the world, and the country is now hosting so-called Covid refugees who find Mexico’s coastal cities (Playa del Carmen, Cancun, etc.) perfect locations to stay away from Covid bans and restrictions in their countries. Mexico also welcomed young Fidel Castro who, after purchasing the decrepit yacht Granma, set sail from Veracruz on November 25, 1956, with 81 armed revolutionaries, and headed to Cuba to liberate their country from dictator Fulgencio Batista...
Well, I arrived in Mexico City on November 23, 2021, from Paris. Despite the long flight, the jet lag (7 hours) and the altitude above 2,200 meters (7,300 feet), I ran, in the Chapultepec Park, a half marathon on November 24 and the Chapultepec Marathon on November 26, before completing barefoot the 2021 Mexico City Marathon on November 28, which is turning out to be possibly my last official marathon, not because any injury or fatigue, but because of a draconian rule the government of “Authoritarian Absurdistan” has imposed on people aged 65 or above—even on those who are fit and healthy--unless they take exclusively an RNA booster shot by December 15.
Sadly, this means that I might soon end up again jogging “in front of my door,” unless I find another option to keep running to stay fit, healthy and boost my immune system, lucidly and rationally. The German newspaper Die Zeit on November 12, 2020:
Autoritäres Absurdistan: Atteste, um das Haus zu verlassen, nur vor der Tür joggen, Wachmänner für Spielzeug: Frankreichs Lockdown ist so repressiv, dass auch sinnvolle Regeln in Verruf geraten.
My book Running Barefoot for Human Survival is available on Amazon in paperback and e-book format (French edition: Courir pieds nus pour sauver les humains).
