After a family lunch at a restaurant in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, I decided to return home by the most possible natural and healthy way: walking, as running with a full stomach was not a wise option. I got the idea for the name of the race while walking through Paris Beach (in French: Paris Plage). Every year during the summer holidays, locals and visitors can enjoy the makeshift facilities on the banks of the Seine—the river that runs through the French capital.
Interestingly—perhaps inspired by the Paris Olympics—the organizers of the 2025 edition of Paris Beach added swimming centers in the polluted waterway. But these centers were temporarily closed, officially “due to water quality,” in other words, the presence of too much excrement. Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that real beaches—like the trendy Deauville Beach—are only a two-hour train ride from Paris.
My book Running Barefoot for Human Survival is available on Amazon in paperback and e-book format (French edition: Courir pieds nus pour sauver les humains).
