Walking a marathon in Pablo Picasso’s hometown
The healthy and eco-friendly way to visit a place is to do it on foot. Therefore, on the eve of the 2025 Malaga Marathon, I walked a Marathon and dedicated the race to the great painter Pablo Picasso who was born in Malaga in 1881. The course took me to the main attractions of the city, including
- The Pablo Picasso’s birthplace (El Museo Casa Natal de Picasso) on 15 La Merced Square (Plaza de la Merced)
- The Alcazaba, a Moorish castle built in the 11th century on a hill in the middle of the city
- The Gibralfaro Castle, another Moorish castle located next to the Alcazaba on a larger and higher hill
- The City’s seafront
- The Malagueta Beach
- The Centre Pompidou Malaga
- The gardens of Pedro Luis Alfonso (Spanish: Jardines de Pedro Luis Alonso) in Malaga, featuring orange trees with ripe oranges
- The city’s famous Christmas Lights, and Martiricos Park (Parque Martiricos), where I walked the last 8 km to complete the distance.
