Madrid’s 2026 Big Stone Age Moment
Marathon # 568
Barefoot Marathon # 211

All marathons, big or small, are Stone Age moments, which logically means that running barefoot is the authentic way to do marathons and all other long-distance races.
Therefore I did barefoot the 2026 Madrid Marathon—one of the 3 events of Madrid’s 2026 Big Stone Age Moment, which included a half marathon and a 10 km race, and attracted more than 45,000 participants. My wife Gisèle Diallo did the half marathon.
As I explained in a previous article, long-distance running is not something that the Boston Brahmins or any recent humans invented: it’s simply our way as individuals of Homo sapiens—a hunter-gatherer species—of practicing persistence hunting, which means that any long-distance race is a very dynamic excursion into the Stone Age, while nudism is the passive short cut.
In other words, half marathons, marathons, ultramarathons and even 10 km or 5 km races are instinctive excursions into the Stone Age, i.e. to our roots, with participants experiencing joyful and immensely happy Stone Age moments. This was my second consecutive barefoot Madrid Marathon.
My book Running Barefoot for Human Survival is available on Amazon in paperback and e-book format (French edition: Courir pieds nus pour sauver les humains).
