The 2025 Maspalomas Carnival Marathon, Gran Canaria
Marathon # 483
Barefoot Marathon # 177
Maspalomas Dunes Marathon # 56
Date: March 29, 2025
My Time : 5:16:46
By Dr. Barefoot Sidy Diallo
On the day of the 2025 Maspalomas Carnival’s biggest and most popular event— The Grand Parade—I set off in the early morning for my 483rd marathon and 177th barefoot marathon. I ran to the Playa del Inglés Beach to enjoy the beautiful sunrise, and continued on the beach to the Maspalomas Lighthouse. Afterwards, I did many out-and-backs on the Meloneras Promenade to complete the distance.
The Grand Parade featuring 120 floats moving at snail speed and surrounded by thick crowds started at 5:00 p.m. and lasted until very late in the night. The last event of the Carnival—The Burial of the Sardine—was held the next day. The festive parade, parodying the funeral procession of a large figure representing a sardine, started in the Yumbo Shopping Center and ended in the Playa del Inglés Beach, where the celebration culminated with the burning of the sardine, symbolizing the farewell to the excesses of the 2025 Maspalomas Carnival. This carnival is one of the good reasons to visit Gran Canaria.
My book Running Barefoot for Human Survival is available on Amazon in paperback and e-book format (French edition: Courir pieds nus pour sauver les humains).
